Have you considered a career working to help people by keep communities safe and crime free? Ever wondered about the rules that apply to police officers or how a criminal trial is run?
If you are going to be a Junior or Senior, come learn about these topics and much, much more in Criminal Justice. We focus on Police Procedures and how the Constitutional Amendments place parameters on their decision making and behaviors. In doing so we also study the criminal code of Washington, with special focus areas on Hate Crimes and legislation. Second Semester (Criminal Justice 2) is spent participating in a Mock Trial to learn criminal trial proceedings and practices. Then we take a deep dive into the prison system, the controversies with the death penalty, and other justice topics as time allows.
In learning about these topics, much of the curriculum is project centered and student driven. Thus, if you are interested in specific issues, there is a very good chance you will have the opportunity to earn credit learning about the things that interest you most!
To enhance your learning even more, a number of guest speakers come into our classroom to discuss their area of expertise and experience. Additionally, field trips are planned to give first hand experience, when possible.
